In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans, as 'right-to-work.' It provides no 'rights' and no 'works.' Its purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining... We demand this fraud be stopped. -- Martin Luther king, Jr.

17th Annual Collette P. Lemay Memorial Scholarship PDF Print E-mail
Written by IBEW 2320
Wednesday, 08 February 2012 05:41

Sponsored by: Local 2320, IBEW

Collette Lemay passed away on February 1, 1995 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH after suffering a brain aneurysm while at work at the Union office.

She was 57 years old. Collette left behind her husband Richard and daughter Veronica.

Collette served IBEW, Local 2320 for many years as Business Agent representing Operator Services. During that time, there were 10 offices throughout New Hampshire with both New England Telephone and AT&T operators. In addition to her duties as Business Agent, she also handled all benefit issues and at the time of her passing, she was Financial Secretary of the Local.

Sister Lemay worked tirelessly for the membership of the Local and did so in a professional and respectful manner. She was a lady in the true sense of the word.

Her absence is felt to this day by all who knew her.

For all the reasons stated, the Officers and Executive Board discussed ways to honor her memory and decided on a scholarship fund in her name. In the years of fundraising, primarily through our annual Collette Lemay Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament, we have raised more than $100,000 and have awarded more than $80,000 in scholarships.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Children, stepchildren and grandchildren of Local 2320, IBEW, active members or retirees.
  • One year of continuous good standing Union membership (satisfied by March 31, 2012 and retirees with Honorary Withdrawal Cards).
  • Acceptance into an accredited college or university, community college or recognized technical or trade school at the time of the award.  Graduate students are not eligible.
  • Only one application will be accepted per individual.
  • Scholarship application forms may be photocopied and will be accepted.

 DEADLINE DATE:

  • Application must be received at the Union Hall by the close of business on May 1, 2012 to be considered.
  • IBEW, Local 2320, will not be able to advise applicants as to the status and/or receipt of their applications.
  • Only winners will be notified in May of 2012.

 AWARDS CRITERIA:

  • Three (3) one-time scholarships in the total amount of $2,000 each will be allocated.
  • Applicant must submit a typewritten, double-spaced essay describing career goals and how you feel the Labor Movement will be beneficial to your generation’s  workforce.  Essay must be between 400 – 600 words.  Do not send essays separately. Essays sent separately will not be considered.
  • A union member verification form (enclosed) must accompany each scholarship application to be considered for submission.

Rules for the Surplus Job Call PDF Print E-mail
Written by IBEW 2320
Monday, 07 November 2011 14:54

Surplus Location on Canvass Sheet

Identifies the number surplus in the Job Title and Work Location and Administrative Work Groups where applicable

Available Positions on Canvass Sheet

Vacancy - EIPPB’s and other vacancies determined by management.

Junior in the Local - Includes jobs in the surplus job title held by the most junior employees in the Union Local area, equivalent to the number of surplus employees in the job title in the Union Local area.  However, an employee at a surplus location, at the time such employee is canvassed, cannot transfer to a job held by one of the identified junior employees if such junior employee is also at a surplus location.  If a senior employee selects a job held by the most junior employees, then the locations of the junior employees become surplus and may participate in the remainder of the job call.

Participants:

Seniority list of employees in the Surplus Job Title and Location -  All employees listed as participants may elect to participate.  Junior Associates at the surplus locations are highlighted in yellow on the participant file and they must participate.

Most Junior Locations:

These are locations where the identified junior non-surplus employees within the local in the surplus job title are located.  If a senior associate from a surplus location selects a job held by a non-surplus junior employee, then the location of the junior employee is now surplus and associates at that location may participate in the remaining canvass.

The Canvass

Associates at surplus locations and administrative work group locations where applicable, will have the opportunity to select a vacancy from the Canvass Sheet up to the number of surplus in the title.

Canvass Leaders will be identified for each canvass location and will conduct a roll call of participants and dial into the conference bridge 10 minutes before scheduled call.

Labor Relations will administer the process by starting with the name of the most senior person on the participant list and continue through the list by seniority until completion or the surplus is satisfied.  If a person is not in attendance, the Canvass Leader will respond “Not Participating”.

Participants should be fully informed and be prepared for their response.  If a participant delays excessively or does not respond when their name is called – they will be considered to have passed.

Selections are irrevocable once the canvass advances to the next person on the seniority list.

When you look at the excel list there are three tabs.  The leftmost "positions" tab are going to be the jobs available to those techs on that list.

AS ALWAYS, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CALL THE HALL.  THIS CAN BE A CONFUSING PROCESS AND IF YOU GO IN WITHOUT ANY INFORMATION YOU WILL BE AT A DISADVANTAGE.
